who we are

Welcome to Flood

Blantyre is a city that grew up around the Hope of Christ. At Flood, we believe that this hope is the true hope of life and that no matter the despair that appears on the surface, this hope is just waiting to be called out and re-awakened in every one of us.  Join our small but vibrant community on Sunday mornings and throughout the week as we seek to do just that. When you walk in the doors of our church in Blantyre, you might be a stranger; from that moment forward, you’re family.

All are invited; Come as you are.

Our vision

Awakening a City of Hope

When Pastor Yami travelled to Blantyre with other church leaders in the year before planting the church, they prayed for the Lord to give them a word for the city. That word was Hope. The Hope of life is Christ Jesus and we believe that Blantyre is indeed a City of Hope, where the hope has not died or been lost but is only sleeping. Our work is to be messengers of Christ in awakening that resting hope.

Our mission

To serve the city in love and faith with authentic connections to develop a movement of hope filled people rooted in Yesu (Jesus).

Our values

  1.  Come As You are
  2. Generosity
  3. Creativity
  4. Reaching Young People Better
  5. Speaking Truth with Grace

These values are 5 commitments we make, from our leadership to our volunteers to our members. We extend them with love and faith from our community to the city.

What we Believe

Our Statement of Faith

The Word of God

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

II Tim. 3:16; II Pet. 1:21  Isa. 55:11 John 20:31, Mark 13:31

The Trinity

We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

Matt. 28:19; Ephesians 4; I John 5:7; Matthew 3:16-17; II Corinthians 13:14)

God the Father

We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of all people, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

Psalm 90:2 Genesis 1:1, 26, 27 Matthew 28:19

Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, fully man and fully God. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people, and personal visible return to earth.

I Tim. 2:5,6; Gal. 1:6-9; Phil. 2:9-11

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide. We believe that the Holy Spirit empowers the church to carry out the mission of God through the working of different gifts.

Acts 1:8 John 14:16-17, John 16:7-13 Galatians 5:25 Ephesians 1:13 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16 1 Cor. 12:1-11

Transformation

We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. We believe that all people are sinners by nature and by choice and are, therefore, under condemnation. We believe that the Holy Spirit is at work continuously transforming toward the likeness of Christ those who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. We believe that in truly placing one’s faith in Christ, a person becomes a new creation, wholly cleansed of sins past, present, and future, and enters into this work of the Holy Spirit to become more and more a living representation of Christ.

John 3:5-8; Heb.10: 19-25; Gal. 2:20

The Church

We believe in the universal church (the “big C church”), a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.

1 Cor. 12:12-31, Matt. 28:18-20

The Ordinances

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lord’s Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Luke 22:14 -20, Mathew 28:19, Acts 2:38

The Last Things

We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the judgment of the just and the unjust, and the fulfillment of Christ’s kingdom in the new heavens and the new earth.

Rev. 21:1-5; Rev. 20:7-15

Justice and Mercy

We believe God is merciful and just. We believe, therefore, that we should share his concern for justice and reconciliation throughout human society and for the liberation of men and women from every kind of oppression. We believe that because men and women are made in the image of God, every person, regardless of race, religion, color, sexual orientation, culture, class, sex or age, has an intrinsic dignity because of which he or she should be respected and served, not exploited. We believe that our love for God and neighbor should lead to fighting for the oppressed, alienated and discriminated. We believe we are to love others as we have been loved from our sin and bondage and now we are free.

Micah 6:8

The Gospel Redeeming Culture

We believe culture is beautiful and an expression of what it means to be created in the image of a creative God. We believe culture is rich and good, and yet because man is a sinner, culture is inevitably influenced by brokenness. But we believe that because we as his people are redeemed by God, our cultures can be received, rethought, redeemed and, at the last, the pieces that are ungodly should be rejected. We believe that no culture is superior; every culture should be seen, understood, and evaluated in the light of the gospel. We believe through the gospel is how every culture should be embraced.
